The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to conduct raids during the first weeks of the second Trump administration. However, new reports have stated that ICE holding facilities are at 109% capacity, leading to the release of some migrants due to overcrowding. ICE has requested more detention capacity from the Department of Defense and local authorities. It is uncertain whether any additional detention capacity is available.
This lack of detention capacity and budgetary issues may result in fewer ICE raids in the coming months. While ICE activity has not been reported in Houston (as of press time), there are indications that ICE raids will begin to take place in the area in the near future.
