Danish-based CM Biomass, one of the world’s largest wood pellet manufacturers and traders, has significantly expanded its U.S. operations by acquiring all assets and activities of Mohegan Renewable Energy (MRE), including three manufacturing plants located in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. This strategic acquisition adds approximately 350,000 tons of annual production capacity, doubling CM Biomass’s U.S. output to over 700,000 tons and positioning the company for further growth toward a projected one million tons by 2023/24. The deal strengthens CM Biomass’s supply chain, enabling stable long-term contracts with American raw material suppliers and supporting the company’s global distribution network. The acquisition also ensures continued employment for MRE’s workforce and ongoing production under new management, with plans for substantial investment in facility upgrades. Shareholder Champe Fitzhugh represented a subsidiary of CM Biomass in the purchase of the assets of the three wood pellet manufacturing plants.
